Located on the Lao border and winding through mountainous terrain, it sits perfectly on the edge of a cliff. The lush jungle surrounding the road creates a sense of mystery and remoteness. The Ho Chi Minh Trail is a combination wonderful between mountains, forests and rivers, creating a beautiful route for tourists to come here to explore.
The Ho Chi Minh Trail is mostly in good condition, the concrete surface is wide enough for cars to travel, but there are still some slippery sections (motorcyclists need to pay attention when going through this section). A section like this is found to be a sign that everything is going to be great, this route will not disappoint you when driving motorbikes here.
Khe Sanh Tank
The ideal time frame for this trek is at least 5 days (although you can complete it in just 1 or 2 days).
First day, depart from Hoi An to Khe Sanh, wake up and start the journey early enough you can go to a few places in Khe Sanh, and end the first day here.
On the second day, your journey will continue from Khe Sanh to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. This will be a really long trip, most of all the riders take about 7-8 hours to complete this distance. Choosing a reasonable starting time will help you complete the trip well before it gets dark so you can reach the end location.
The third day should be spent exploring the caves in Phong Nha National Park and the beautiful scenery around this place. This place is full of mountains, forests, caves, rivers, streams; enough for you to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy a comfortable day with fresh air here.
The fourth day is from Phong Nha to the North, all the roads here are a bit crowded and it is a bit difficult to find a good hotel, you can choose randomly for this day. The closer to the North the better.
Day 5 is to go to Pu Luong or Mai Chau. Both of these places are great places to explore and experience, staying at a local homestay is a real experience. This is a place where you can immerse yourself and explore, you may forget about time, this may be the reason why you return to Hanoi a little late. The drive back to Hanoi can take about 4 hours.
Explore Hai Van Pass with Honda CB500x from Tuan Motorbike
Hai Van Pass is not part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, but it is a place that most tourists want to explore, the pass is located between the two provinces of Hue and Da Nang. Hai Van Pass is a famous road for motorbikes, where there is a combination of majestic mountains and forests and vast blue sea, the beautiful scenery makes everyone fascinated. If you go through Hai Van Pass, you can drive along QL49 and QL14 to connect Hue and Khe Sanh in just one drive.
This may be a better alternative for drivers who want to stay somewhere more remote and beautiful.
Hoi An along QL14B and up QL14 to Khe Sanh, this is a long way. You can stop at A Luoi town to rest for 1 night if you cannot reach Khe Sanh. However, this will bring you a new challenge, a bit difficult because A Luoi to Khe Sanh is very short and A Luoi to Phong Nha is very long. If you cannot reach the end point at Khe Sanh, not completing the route from Hoi An to Khe Sanh will interrupt the pace of the trip.
This stretch of road is said to be the most beautiful road in Vietnam. The combination of beautiful rivers and mountains along with lush green forests, curves, small roads leading to strange bridges. This can be a challenge that requires the driver to quickly adapt to the terrain, gradually becoming familiar with the surroundings.
This road seems remote but is very easy to navigate, many people drive through here these days and there is also plenty of help if an accident occurs.
The Ho Chi Minh Trail between Phong Nha and Vinh is not a well known stretch but it is still popular with motorcyclists. Near Phong Nha, QL15 is still nice but closer to Hanoi the road gets busier and smoother. Stop in Vinh and overnight at a hotel.
Ninh Binh is a popular tourist destination. The problem with Ninh Binh is that it is very difficult for drivers to get in and out of Hanoi. This makes drivers choose to abandon the remote roads and go straight into the chaos of Hanoi.
Mai Chau and Pu Luong are more ideal locations for motorcyclists, allowing drivers to head further west and away from the main entrance to Hanoi. The journey from Mai Chau to Hanoi is much more pleasant than the journey from Ninh Binh to Hanoi.
